See the Full Plant Floor Solution.I'm using a Dymo label printer that is connected to an office laptop. I would like to connect this printer to a network so that i can print remotely. This device has no ethernet cord there for i don't have any IP address.

Is there a device i can add to my Dymo printer so i can add it to my network? I have networked many Dymo printers in the past few years. The first thing I would do is put it on its own printer server and take the PC out of the equation. Assuming you're not connected to an Active Directory domain where you could publish that out which would allow for deployment.

I would start by getting the admin password for those PCs that don't have the printer installed. When you install, it's likely looking to install the driver and the user you are using to set up the printer does not have privileges to do so, I assume.

I would start there, but let me know if that doesn't work. I would say that a usb print server would do the trick, but I'm not sure how that would work with a Label printer. How is it connected to your computer? Just share from the computer it is connected to and try and add it on another computer. It may work, it may not.

I was thinking about trying a print server but i'm hesitant as i'm not sure it would work. The label writer is connected via a usb cord to a laptop.

Yes i can share it from that one laptop but i would have to install a software on any other computer that would need access to that label writer. To avoid that perhaps it's best to have it setup like a centralized printer instead. I would think that avoiding installing the printers drivers on each machine that will access it is not a good idea.

I would always have it locally installed or pushed out to the computers through GPO. This is to insure that what is being sent to the printer is formatted correctly etc. Even in a Terminal Server situation the driver will need to be local to the machine and the server and then it will work provided they match.

That is the way printer sharing works and if the software would even work in this scenario is questionable. I also doubt this was ever meant to be networked or used this way. I would contact Dymo support to see if it is even possible. Here is what I would do in your situation. These steps assume you have already installed the printer onto a machine and shared it to the rest of the network.

Locate the pc where the printer is installed on. Either via the IP address or computer name. This should install correctly and not ask you for the driver. Cause you have already installed the driver in step 1. In case it does ask you for the driver, you will have to point to the folder where the driver is located and double click the.

Neilface thank you so much for finding this resource. That is exactly what i was looking for and i wanted to make sure that it is in fact possible to do.

Many new printers are network printers that can connect to your network via Wi-Fi. Once connected, you install the appropriate driver software on each computer and all the computers can print to that printer over the network. Windows makes it easy to share printers between computers on your local network. This is ideal if you have local printer that connects to your computer via USB.

Once you set up printer sharing, the printer will function almost like a networked printer. As long as the computer the printer is connected to is powered on, any other authorized computer on the network can print to it.

The easiest way to do this on Windows 7 or Windows 8 is with the Homegroup feature. Simply set up a Homegroup and check the Printers option to share your connected printers. As with standard networked printers, this only works over the local network. Many new printers include built-in support for Google Cloud Print. You can then remotely access the printer with your Google account credentials. You can also share one of your printers with another Google account, so you can allow other people to remotely print to your computer as easily as if you were sharing a file with them via Google Drive.

Up until recently, Google Cloud Print has been a bit of a novelty. Install it and Google Cloud Print will be available in the standard print dialog, so you can remotely print to Cloud Print printers from Microsoft Office or any other desktop app.

For printing over the Internet, Google Cloud Print offers the most polished experience and easiest setup experience for average users. All your traffic will be sent over this tunnel, so your computer will behave as if it were connected to the remote network.

This means that locally shared printers, as well as other network resources like Windows file shares, will be accessible. Once your computer is connected to the VPNthe printer will be available and you can print to it just as if you were on the same local network. Many businesses networks set up VPNs so their employees can remotely connect to the business network, so you may already be able to do this with your existing VPN connection.

Windows includes hidden support for setting up a VPN server. There are a wide variety of other different ways to print remotely. For example, some networked printers may be able to accept documents at an email address and automatically print all documents that arrive at that address.

It only took one or two fusers getting totally hosed before they believed me. I hesitate though because I looked close to ten years ago, label printers were NOT like little printers.

You had to use special software to print labels on them. If we were going to get something like a Zebra that was network connected, can they print a label to it from Word? If you're doing a mail merge, do you need one merge to the letters and another merge to the labels? Unfortunately I do use the p-touch software that came with it never tried out of word or something. Any printer MFP or office printer should be able to handle this.

Unfortunately if you want a printer that is capable of doing different type of labels with a lot of versatility without actually switching out the different types of labels each and every time, unfortunately you might be out of luck.

Honestly, I would just stick with printing half sheets of labels and call it a day. I have used both old and new Zebra label printers at multiple places of employment, and I highly recommend the new ones.

If you need one that has built in networking, I recommend the GXd, which you can get on Amazon. They are pretty reliable, once you set them up, they run like a champ. I haven't personally done mail listings on them, but I would think that there is a way to do so.

Any label printer can print from Word I believe. I've ZT which prints shipping labels. The thing you have to watch out for is the label size. Unless you get the printer that has multiple label size media holders, you are stuck with 1 label size media loaded at a time. Thanks for the input guys.

It sounds like we're going with the GX since it does direct thermal as opposed the the thermal transfer that the Amazon listing showed for the ZD That might just be the 3rd party's poor description, but I see no need to buy file and paper Just direct thermal will be fine.
